As summer approaches, many golf cart owners are asking the same questions that we are… can I get an air conditioner for my golf cart?… what is the best fan for my golf cart?… are the fans under the roof of golf carts effective?… Come along as we investigate our top recommendations for staying cool while riding in your golf cart.
The first topic we need to discuss is air conditioning for golf carts. Other than some “swamp coolers”, we have not seen any type of actual air conditioning systems for Club Car, E-Z-GO, or Yamaha golf carts. Swamp coolers use a fan blown through either ice or cold water to deliver cool air to the riders. We have tried several over the years but were always disappointed. Below we will present tried and trued methods of staying cooler while enjoying rides in your golf cart.
Fold Down Golf Cart Windshields
As obvious as it sounds, we felt it important to discuss just how important and fold down windshield is when trying to stay cool in your golf cart (or warmer in the winter). There is no substitute for trying to get a breeze than the direct air movement created when you are riding down the road. Many folks have a one piece windshield which really puts you at a disadvantage if you are trying to stay cool. Golf cart windshields are available in tinted or clear and some even offer vents in the bottom half of the windshield to get even more breeze. CLICK HERE to view the “tinted and vented” style golf cart windshields. Tinted golf cart windshield can create a cooler ride by blocking some of the sun’s rays much like tinting the windows in a car.
Even if you decide to add one of the fans we discuss below, we feel that a fold down windshield is the most important part of making you golf cart ride cooler and more comfortable.
Oscillating Dash Fan for Golf Carts
Probably the simplest fan option for your golf cart is a fan that clips to the dash or to the roof supports. These simply plug into a 12V port in your golf cart and provide a nice breeze in your ride. They do require 12V so you may need a voltage reducer on your cart. CLICK HERE to view these. Some offer multiple speeds and some are designed to mount to your golf cart’s roof strut. Stay cooler on your next round of golf with one of these cool little golf cart accessories!
RHOXAir Fan for Golf Carts
We feel that this is the best fan for a golf cart that is on the market. This golf cart fan by RHOX is available in various voltages so that it can be used on most Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, and other model golf carts. The fan is of universal design and can be mounted to the bottom of your golf cart dash or on the underside of your golf cart roof. This golf cart really moves a lot of air and performs amazingly. It utilizes a squirrel type fan which as been known for years as one of the top methods for moving lots of air fast. We really feel that any golf cart enthusiast would enjoy the added comfort of using this fan in the summertime.
Overhead Fan for Golf Carts
Overhead (also known as under roof) golf cart fans are yet another popular fan type in the golf cart industry. These tend to be a bit more rudimentary but do the job of moving the air around within your golf cart. They are efficient and are fairly easy to install. They are also available in models that run on various voltages so that are compatible with most any make of golf cart. Most are 12″ in diameter and are low profile so they really do not get in the way. When mounted in the center of your golf cart roof they do not interfere too much with headroom either.
We have used many types of golf cart fans over the years. The ones that we didn’t discuss here were the ones that we didn’t like, failed, or did not perform to a level we found acceptable. We feel that any golf cart rider would be happy with any of the golf cart fans that we discussed and it really does come down to personal preference. We like the RHOXAir golf cart fan the best and have found it to look the best, perform the best, and be the easiest to use.
