Best Ways to Tie Down Honda Pioneer and Other SXS / UTV / ATV for Trailering
Riding your Honda Pioneer (or other SXS / UTV / ATV vehicles) can be loads of fun. Getting your Pioneer to where you want to go riding should be quick, easy, safe and secure. We will discuss what we believe to be the best methods and product (straps, D Rings, E-Tracks, and others) for securing your SXS while trailering. Please keep in mind that WE ARE NOT EXPERTS! Please read all manufacturer’s information and instructions thoroughly when choosing the best straps and other gear for securing your ATV to your trailer. We are providing information based on our research and experience only.
In this article we will discuss several methods of strapping your UTV to your trailer for transporting. We will provide the pros and cons of each. We will discuss what we have come to use, and why. There are two major products that we will discuss and will present a couple of each. First are anchor points for your trailer. These are as, if not more, important than the straps you select to tie down your Pioneer when trailering. These come in many designs including hooks, D-Rings, E-Tracks, and many more. The second group of products that we will present are the actual ATV tie down straps. Available to choose from are E-Track straps, ratchet straps, tire straps, and many others. Which are the best? We believe it all depends on what you are hauling, how you are hauling and many other variable. Let’s dive right in and try to determine what are the best anchor points and tie down straps for hauling YOUR buggies to go riding!

Instructions say that these can be installed with screws or bolts. We always prefer bolts. If installing into a wood surface, we always put a steel backer plate or, at the very least, large washers on the back side of the wood. This reduces the chances that the bolts will pull through the wood. The E-Tracks are also suitable for mounting to the walls or ceiling if you are hauling in an enclosed trailer. This can be great for securing ramps or other gear to the walls or ceiling of your trailer.
